Frequently Asked Questions

Below are the answers to some of our most frequently asked questions. Don't see an answer to your question? Email us at [email protected].

General Questions:

Q: Where are you located, and what kind of parking is available?
A:  Our rehearsal space is located at 500 East Moana Lane, next to the Steinway Gallery and across from Bobo’s. There is a parking lot with plenty of spaces as well as limited street parking. Our performance venues vary; check our website for where our performances take place; we always post the address, a map, and directions on the show tickets page, which you will see in the menu when we are selling tickets.
Q: Are you a school or a theater company?
A:  A lot of people think we are a school and only do children’s theater productions! That is not the case! We are a nonprofit organization that produces both adult and youth musicals and offers ongoing classes in the performing arts, mostly acting and musical theater-based, as well as workshops and camps for a wide range of ages. We hold auditions twice a year, for both our adult productions and for our youth productions.
Q: Do you offer financial assistance for any of your programs?
A: Yes, we can help with class and camp fees or youth production tuition if you download and fill out our financial assistance form. Tap or click here.
Q: How do I find out about classes, camps, or auditions?
A: The best way to stay informed is to subscribe to our emails and follow our Facebook and Instagram pages, where we announce upcoming classes and auditions. All upcoming classes, camps and auditions are also posted on our website. Tap or click here to join our email list.
Q: Is your rehearsal space available to rent for other rehearsals, meetings, or other events?
A: Yes! We have two rooms that are available to rent; our largest studio is 36’ x 44’. To find out more about rentals please contact Cary at [email protected].

Shows and Tickets:

Q: How many and what kinds of shows do you produce?
A: We do two productions a year: our summer musical is always a popular, well-known, family friendly  Broadway show which is presented at the Robert Z. Hawkins outdoor Amphitheater at Bartley Ranch, and the cast is usually all adults unless the show features roles for youth. These shows are like the shows you’d see at the Pioneer Center, but our ticket prices are more affordable, and seeing theater under the stars on a warm summer night is unbeatable! We also present an all-youth musical production in December or January with actors ages 8-18. This production is usually an hour-long junior edition of a well-known Broadway or Disney show. At the conclusions of every class and camp, we present showcases - little mini-productions, which are held at our rehearsal studio.
Q: How can I reserve and purchase tickets to a SSPA show?
A: When we are actively selling tickets, they can be purchased on the "Tickets" page of this website. They typically go on sale about two months before a production. If you have trouble buying your tickets online, call the box office at (775) 852-7740 or email them at [email protected]. Please note that we have a small team and our box office typically returns calls within 24 hours. Accessible seating is available; see our seat maps at our ticketing page.
Q: Do you offer refunds on tickets?
A: Ticket purchases are non-refundable. If you need to exchange your tickets for another performance, please call or email our box office.
Q: Can I bring food into the theater?
A: For our youth productions, food can only be consumed outside the theater. Patrons at our summer shows at the Robert Z. Hawkins Amphitheater at Bartley Ranch are welcome to bring anything sold at our concessions stand into the theater. The concessions stand also offers seat cushion rental; and you are welcome to bring your own food and beverages. No glass is allowed in the Amphitheater.
Q: Are there any places to dine or pick up food around Bartley Ranch?
A: Yes! Here is a list of restaurants and eateries in the area. Some may offer discounts if you show them your tickets. Restaurant List

Auditioning:

Q: How do I audition for a show?
A: About a month before we hold auditions, we post an information packet on our website that explains what is required to audition, how to sign up for an audition time, the rehearsal and performance schedules, and tips and suggestions. We usually ask you to prepare a song and a monologue. Sometimes we ask you to learn a simple bit of choreography to show us at the audition.  If you are new or just beginning in theater, we highly recommend you take our audition workshops which are offered in the winter, before we hold auditions for our summer show. We go over what to expect at an audition, and we help you prepare for singing, acting and choreography auditions.

Classes & Camps:

Q: How do I register for a class or camp?
A: Go to our classes page to see what classes are being offered  and click on the link at the bottom of the class description; then follow the instructions to register and pay. You will need  to fill out a form with all pertinent information.
Q: What is your class and camp refund policy?
A:
  • Cancellation more than 1 week before a class/camp begins will result in a full refund, minus a $25 cancellation fee per class/camp.
  • Cancellation 1 week or less before a class/camp begins will result in no refund; but you can request a credit. You can always register as a drop in to try out a class; we cannot guarantee we can hold a spot if a class fills up, however.
  • Exceptions will be considered for students with extenuating circumstances.

Q: How do I become a volunteer for SSPA?
