How do you create a flop on Broadway? If you’re Mel Brooks, you start with a scheming con man (Max Bialystock), add in a mousy accountant (Leo Bloom), then introduce them to a pigeon-loving Nazi and his script for a gloriously offensive musical, “Springtime for Hitler," and finally, sprinkle in an eager blonde bombshell! It’s a recipe for failure. But in this laugh-out-loud comedy, unexpected success throws Max and Leo into a downward spiral, with unexpected consequences. Crazy caricatures and camp spectacle come together to produce a wonderfully tasteless evening of entertainment. The in-your-face humor includes high-kicking stormtroopers, a flock of pigeons, hand puppets, and little old ladies dancing with walkers. It’s sure to be a flop! We mean, hit! Beware: this show is not for the weak of heart, (or for youth under 16; discretion advised). |
