Class will culminate in a tournament of “competitive” games. Instructor: Tom Ready

Musical Theater
Classes and Workshops

These classes are designed for musical theater performers who want to improve on their dancing, acting, and/or singing.  Each will prepare students to ace their auditions and be more comfortable performing in musical theater productions. Three formats to choose from! We highly encourage taking one or all of the classes or workshops to prepare for college or local theater auditions.

Broadway Choreography Rep (repertoire) Workshop – we will have another workshop scheduled in the fall!
This three-hour workshop, taught by guest artist-in-residence Adam Cates, will focus on exploring original choreography from Broadway musicals. After a thorough physical warm up, students will learn dance repertoire from shows like Promises Promises, West Side Story, and Anastasia* while also learning about the choreographers who created these iconic dances. Prior dance training is not required, but a willingness to move is. Participants should wear clothing that allows for a full range of movement (all black clothing preferred) and bring jazz shoes or sneakers, a water bottle, and a yoga mat or beach towel. (*Show rep subject to change)
Adam Cates is a director/choreographer whose credits include the Broadway productions of Anastasia, A Gentleman’s Guide to Love & Murder, and Anything Goes starring Sutton Foster and Joel Grey, as well as musicals and operas for theater companies across the US. He is currently head of the Education and Development divisions for the Pioneer Center for the Performing Arts.

New! Musical Theater - Acting and Performance
Musical theater performers need three essential skills to be competitive: the ability to sing, dance, and act. Most of the performers we see have one or two of the three, so they don’t always get the part they want! If you excel at singing or dancing but don’t land those lead roles, maybe it’s time to work on your acting. In this class you will be coached as you work on scenes and songs from musicals. You will gain confidence and become the performer you want to be.
Instructor: Abby Rosen
Ages 12 and up
8 Wednesdays 6:45 – 8:00pm starting January 18
$175 for 8-week series

Have fun while you learn!

The benefits of training in the arts go far beyond developing theater skills. Research demonstrates that the arts are vital to a well-rounded education. They promote critical thinking, enhance spatial and temporal perception, foster positive social skills, and provide powerful motivation for students to excel in school. Such education calls for students to process information verbally, aurally, and kinesthetically—so that every child can succeed in the classroom and in life. Theater especially captures all of the above skills and learning styles in one art form! And it’s fun! We encourage you to consider giving your child the golden opportunity to develop confidence and social skills by signing them up for one of our classes or encouraging them to participate in a camp or one of our plays!
